IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert Across Multiple States; Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several parts of the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha, as the southwest monsoon continues to intensify.
According to the IMD, many of these regions are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusty winds over the next few days. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
The weather department has also warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic disruptions, and localized flooding, particularly in urban centres. Citizens are urged to follow official weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Emergency services and local administrations have been asked to remain on standby to respond promptly to any weather-related incidents. People living near rivers, drains, and flood-prone areas have been advised to stay vigilant as rainfall activity is expected to remain active.
