Jasvir Singh Sekhon Conducts Surprise Inspection of Government Ration Depots in Sangrur

Sangrur, June 26:

Punjab State Food Commission Member Jasvir Singh Sekhon conducted a surprise inspection of government ration depots at Burj Sedha and Jakhla villages in Sangrur district to assess the effective implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.

During the inspection, he carried out a comprehensive review of the quality, weight and moisture content of the foodgrains supplied to the depots, besides examining the functioning of the Public Distribution System (PDS). Samples of foodgrain bags were weighed using weighing scales, while their moisture content was scientifically tested with a moisture meter to verify compliance with the prescribed standards.

Jasvir Singh Sekhon instructed the authorities to ensure the prompt installation of information boards displaying the Punjab State Food Commission’s helpline number and other mandatory public information at depots where such details were found missing.

Emphasising the importance of quality assurance, Jasvir Singh Sekhon directed officials to ensure that only foodgrains conforming to the prescribed quality standards are supplied to ration depots. He stressed that regular monitoring of foodgrain quality, weight and moisture content must be carried out and that complete transparency and accountability should be maintained throughout the ration distribution process so that every eligible beneficiary receives quality foodgrains in the prescribed quantity and within the stipulated time.

He further stated that the Punjab State Food Commission is fully committed to ensuring the effective implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013. To safeguard the interests of beneficiaries and further strengthen transparency and accountability in the Public Distribution System, the Commission will continue to conduct surprise inspections across the state from time to time.
