Punjab Government to Review Akal Takht’s Recommendations; Harpal Singh Cheema Assures Positive Consideration
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has stated that it will carefully examine the recommendations proposed by the Akal Takht regarding amendments to the state’s anti-sacrilege law. Officials said the suggestions will be reviewed once they are formally received.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the government respects the sentiments of the Sikh community and is committed to considering the recommendations in a constructive manner. He added that the proposed amendments will be evaluated from both legal and administrative perspectives before any decision is made.
The Akal Takht had recently indicated that certain changes to the anti-sacrilege legislation were necessary and is expected to submit its recommendations to the state government. The issue has sparked discussions among religious leaders and political parties across Punjab.
According to the minister, the government aims to ensure that any future amendments are legally sound while also addressing public and religious concerns. He emphasized that the administration remains open to dialogue and will take an appropriate decision after thoroughly studying the proposals.
The Punjab Government is now awaiting the official recommendations from the Akal Takht. Further action on the proposed amendments is expected after the review process is completed.
