Ambala Borewell Tragedy: Four-Year-Old Nirvair Singh Loses Life After Marathon Rescue Effort
Ambala, Haryana: A tragic accident in Haryana’s Ambala district claimed the life of four-year-old Nirvair Singh, who fell into an abandoned borewell while playing near his family’s agricultural field. Despite a prolonged rescue mission involving multiple agencies, the child could not be saved.
The incident occurred in Dhanaura village when Nirvair was accompanying his father to the fields. Officials said the child accidentally slipped into an uncovered borewell estimated to be around 220 feet deep.
Rescue teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army, police, and local administration, worked continuously for nearly 21 hours. Heavy machinery and specialized equipment were used as rescuers dug a parallel shaft in an attempt to reach the trapped child.
After being brought out early Wednesday morning, Nirvair was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over the presence of abandoned and unsecured borewells in rural areas. Local authorities have initiated an inquiry into the matter and said appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible for leaving the borewell uncovered. The administration has also appealed to landowners to ensure that unused borewells are properly sealed to prevent similar tragedies.
The heartbreaking loss has left the village in mourning and once again raised questions about the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations regarding abandoned borewells.
