Gold Worth Around ₹50 Lakh Seized at Amritsar Airport
Amritsar: Customs officials at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, have seized approximately 484 grams of gold, with an estimated market value of around ₹50 lakh, during a routine inspection.
According to officials, the gold was recovered after a passenger was stopped for a detailed security check based on suspicion. The precious metal was allegedly concealed in an attempt to evade customs detection.
The seized gold has been taken into official custody, and the passenger is being questioned to determine the origin of the consignment, its intended destination, and whether the case is linked to a larger smuggling network.
Customs authorities have initiated legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the law. Officials said that investigations are ongoing and further action will be taken based on the findings. The department continues to strengthen surveillance at international airports to curb illegal gold smuggling and other cross-border offences.
