Punjab Farmers Urge Government to Announce Paddy Procurement Schedule Without Delay

Punjab Sarkar

Chandigarh, July 7: With the paddy harvesting season approaching, farmer organisations across Punjab have called on the state and central governments to release the paddy procurement schedule at the earliest. They say an early announcement will help cultivators prepare for the marketing season and reduce uncertainty in grain markets.

Farmer representatives have stressed that timely procurement planning is essential to ensure smooth arrivals of paddy in mandis, adequate storage arrangements, and uninterrupted lifting of produce. They have also urged authorities to clarify procurement dates, payment mechanisms, and mandi logistics well before the harvest begins.

According to farmer leaders, delays in announcing procurement schedules can create confusion among growers and affect harvesting plans. They have appealed to the government to coordinate with procurement agencies, transport authorities, and rice millers so that the procurement process begins without operational hurdles.

The demand comes as preparations for the upcoming kharif marketing season gather pace across Punjab. Agricultural experts note that advance planning helps prevent congestion in mandis, ensures timely payments to farmers, and improves the overall efficiency of procurement operations.

Officials are expected to review procurement arrangements in the coming weeks, including infrastructure readiness, storage capacity, and logistics. Farmer groups have expressed hope that an early procurement roadmap will provide clarity and confidence to cultivators ahead of the harvesting season.
