Sunam, July 9:

Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Vice Chairman Kimti Bhagat said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government and the Punjab Gau Sewa Commission are working with unwavering commitment to make the state free from the problem of stray cattle. As part of this initiative, a special drive has been underway in Sunam for the past 10 days, during which more than 115 stray and abandoned cattle have been safely shifted to the Government Gaushala at Jhaneri.

Kimti Bhagat said that the campaign is being carried out successfully under the guidance of Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and with the support of Manpreet Bansal, President of the Municipal Council, Sunam. He added that stray cattle pose a serious risk of road accidents, disrupt the smooth flow of traffic, and cause inconvenience to the general public. Therefore, the Punjab Gau Sewa Commission, the district administration, and local bodies are working in close coordination to find a permanent solution to this issue.

He further informed that, under the ongoing campaign, an average of 8–10 stray cattle are being removed from the roads and shifted to gaushalas every day. Expressing confidence, he said that Sunam would soon become free from the problem of stray cattle, after which the drive would be intensified in Sangrur, Dhuri, and other towns across the state.

He asserted that no stray cattle would be allowed to remain on the roads anywhere in Punjab and that the campaign would continue until every stray animal is safely relocated to a gaushala.

On this occasion, Manpreet Bansal, President of the Municipal Council, Sunam, said that after assuming office, his foremost priority has been to make the city clean, safe, and conducive to smooth traffic movement. He added that resolving the issue of stray cattle is essential both for ensuring public safety and for the proper care and welfare of the animals. Accordingly, the Municipal Council is implementing the campaign with full commitment in coordination with the Punjab Gau Sewa Commission and the district administration.

Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Social worker Ms. Neeru Tuli, departmental officers, volunteers associated with Gau Sewa, and other distinguished citizens.
