PAU-KVK Organizes Awareness Camp on Nutrient and Disease Management in Basmati at Village Bhulan

Under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and the able leadership of the In-charge, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, PAU’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur organized a village-level farmer awareness camp at Village Bhulan, Block Andana, on balanced nutrition and prevention of major diseases in the basmati crop.

During this camp, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, shared detailed information on balanced use of fertilizers in basmati crop. He made farmers aware of the identification of symptoms caused by nutrient deficiencies and the necessary measures for their management as per the recommendations of Punjab Agricultural University.

He advised farmers to avoid the use of DAP fertilizer in basmati crops. He said that in fields where dhaincha or sunhemp, the green manure crops, have been incorporated into the soil, there is no need to apply nitrogenous fertilizer in basmati.

On this occasion, detailed information about disease management in basmati was also shared. This included sharing PAU’s recommendations regarding identification, prevention, and management of importance basmati diseases like foot rot and Stunted rice black streaked dwarfing virus (SRBSDV).

At the end, queries of farmers were answered and farm literature was distributed.
