FM Harpal Singh Cheema Distributes Crores in Development Grants to Dirba Villages

Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today visited several villages of the Dirba Assembly Constituency and distributed development grant cheques worth crores of rupees to village panchayats in the village saths. The initiative reflects the Punjab Government’s focus on direct public engagement and need-based development at the grassroots level.
Interacting with villagers, Harpal Singh Cheema reviewed ongoing development works and discussed their pending demands. He said grants were being provided according to the genuine needs of villages, without any political discrimination.
Speaking to the media, Harpal Singh Cheema said that under previous governments, development cheques were often distributed either by calling representatives to government offices or through large public functions in villages, resulting in additional expenditure. In contrast, the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, believes in engaging directly with people, listening to their concerns and providing grants according to their requirements.
Harpal Singh Cheema said cheques were distributed today to panchayats of Baghrour, Safipur Kalan, Safipur Khurd, Munshiwala, Diyalgarh Kampar and Janal, among other villages. He said the government was also working to preserve Punjab’s rich rural heritage as part of its vision of building a ‘Rangla Punjab’.
As part of this effort, ₹11 lakh was provided to the panchayat of Khanpur Fakiran for development and preservation of its heritage character and public facilities. He said around ₹45 lakh had earlier been provided for the development of Safipur Kalan bus stand, which has now acquired an attractive heritage-inspired appearance. Responding to local demand, another ₹45 lakh was provided to the panchayat today.
Cheema said grants of ₹35 lakh for Baghrour, ₹19 lakh for Munshiwala, ₹47 lakh for Safipur Khurd, ₹49 lakh for Diyalgarh Kampar and ₹46 lakh for Janal were also provided. On the previous day, ₹45 lakh for Dhandial and ₹20 lakh for Mehlan had been provided.
He directed the sarpanches to start the sanctioned works without delay and ensure timely completion. He said road construction and other development projects were also progressing rapidly across the constituency.
Cheema reiterated that the government was committed to equitable development and was providing grants to villages without political discrimination, based solely on their needs.
OSD Tapinder Singh Sohi, Chairperson Market Committee Dirba Jasvir Kaur Shergill, Sarpanch Ravinder Singh Mann, Sarpanch Garib Dass of Safipur Kalan, along with other panches, sarpanches and prominent residents, were present.
