Himachal Pradesh Monsoon Crisis Deepens: 259 Dead, 150 Roads Blocked

The monsoon situation in Himachal Pradesh has continued to worsen, with the state recording 259 deaths during the 64-day period from June 30 to September 1, according to data from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC).

The heavy rainfall and related incidents have also caused extensive damage to public and private infrastructure. The total estimated losses have crossed ₹1,200 crore, with the latest assessment putting the damage at around ₹1,202.64 crore.

Road connectivity remains a major concern, with 150 roads reported blocked across the state. Mandi has recorded the highest number of road closures, followed by Shimla. Restoration teams are working to reopen affected routes and restore essential services.

Of the 259 fatalities, 106 were linked to rain and disaster-related incidents, including landslides and drowning, while 153 deaths were attributed to road accidents during the period.

The continuing rainfall has put additional pressure on rescue and restoration operations, while authorities remain focused on repairing damaged infrastructure and maintaining connectivity in affected areas.
