Green Crackers Under Fresh Review! Centre Orders New Testing Over Safety Concerns
The Centre has decided to conduct fresh scientific testing of green firecrackers following differences between government agencies over the safety and environmental impact of certain formulations.
The dispute involves the use of barium and other materials in newer versions of green crackers. While CSIR-NEERI has approved certain formulations, the Central Pollution Control Board has raised concerns about their environmental and health implications.
The matter has reached the Supreme Court, with the government seeking additional scientific assessment before allowing wider commercial use of the disputed formulations.
