PM Modi Visits Jakarta to Deepen India–Indonesia Strategic Partnership

Jakarta, July 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta on an official visit aimed at strengthening India’s relationship with Indonesia and expanding cooperation across key strategic sectors. The visit forms part of India’s continued efforts to enhance ties with important partners in Southeast Asia under its Act East Policy.

During his meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, the two leaders held extensive discussions on defence cooperation, trade, investment, maritime security, energy, critical minerals, healthcare, education, and digital innovation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to increasing collaboration in areas that contribute to regional peace, economic growth, and stability in the Indo-Pacific.

Several agreements are expected to be signed during the visit to boost bilateral cooperation and create new opportunities for businesses and investors in both countries. Defence collaboration remains a major focus, with reports indicating that India and Indonesia are advancing discussions on expanding defence partnerships and strengthening military cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the long-standing cultural and historical ties between the two nations, emphasizing the importance of people-to-people connections and stronger economic engagement. The leaders expressed confidence that the visit would open a new chapter in India–Indonesia relations and further elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership.

The visit reflects India’s growing engagement with Southeast Asia and its commitment to working closely with regional partners on security, connectivity, sustainable development, and economic progress. Officials from both countries described the discussions as constructive and forward-looking, paving the way for deeper collaboration in the years ahead.
